About Maine AIM/AEM Program

Accessible Educational Materials logoThe Maine AIM Program began as a federal grant project in 2006 designed to provide technical assistance and training to Maine educators and families regarding the National Instructional Materials Accessibility Center (NIMAC). Over the years, the Maine AIM Program expanded to provide training and technical assistance regarding the identification of students with print disabilities, and the selection, acquisition and use of Accessible Instructional and Educational Materials (AIM/AEM).

In 2017, as part of an expansion of the mission of the program, our official name was changed to the Maine Accessible Educational Materials Program (AEM).

Currently, the Maine AEM Program and Maine CITE Coordinating Center External link support Maine schools to ensure all of their educational materials and communications are accessible to all. This includes training and technical assistance in the following areas:

The Maine AEM Program serves schools through the Maine AEM Community of Practice and is administered by the Maine CITE Coordinating Center External link on behalf of the Maine Department of Education.
